How We Worship

Worship Formats

We offer three weekend services at Resurrection: a casual format on Saturday evenings at 5:30 PM and a more formal format on Sunday mornings at 8:00 and 10:45 AM. The 8:00 AM service uses the liturgy of the Lutheran Book of Worship; the 10:45 AM service follows the liturgy of the blue "With One Voice" hymnal. As you might expect from a church whose most famous composers include Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn, music is a big part of our experience, and it ranges from classical to contemporary gospel. Our warm and welcoming sanctuary is an ideal setting for both contemporary and traditional services

Regular Worship Opportunities

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the Lord with Gladness; come into his presence with singing.”                                                         Psalm 100:1-2

The Celebrate Service

The Celebrate Service, on Saturday evenings at 5:30, features contemporary music sung to piano accompaniment. It is a service that focuses on celebrating the Good News of Jesus Christ and praising God for the blessings He has bestowed on us. This service is particularly appropriate for “seekers,” those looking for spiritual answers to life’s challenges but unfamiliar with church practices. Communion is celebrated weekly at Celebrate.

Word and Sacrament

The Sunday morning services are at 8:00 and 10:45AM. Music is an important part of our worship service, with the choir participating at the 10:45 service. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is shared every week at both services. The second service is followed by a period of fellowship, where members and visitors meet with each other, and share refreshments with one another. Nursery care is available during the second service.

Family Worship Service (Coincident With Sunday School)

Beginning Sunday, September 21, we will be offering a family worship service with Sunday School at 9:15 AM. This service will begin with a gathering time as the Sunday School children and parents sing songs of praise to God. After a children's message, that will reinforce the Sunday School lesson of the day, the Sunday School will then break into their classes as the parents continue in worship.

Taize Prayer Service

There will be a Taize prayer service every Sunday evening at 7:30 PM. See the Taize page for a brief description of the Taize prayer service.

Children’s Message

But Jesus called for them and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.”                                         Luke 18:16

Resurrection features a children’s message during the second worship service. Children are always welcomed and are a vital part of our church family. There is an element of the message that speaks to all the adults as well

Nursery

At Resurrection we have a nursery attendant each and every Sunday for the 10:45 AM (10:00 AM Summer) service. Abbie Dolci, our nursery attendant for over two years, is a Junior at TCNJ majoring in elementary education. Abbie is also the oldest of four siblings, so she has lots of on the job training, and looks forward to spending time with the little ones each Sunday morning! As parents, we can all appreciate the importance of having a familiar person in the nursery each week so the children will feel comfortable staying, allowing their parents to worship knowing their children are in good hands. Please feel free to bring your children to nursery before service begins, or if you prefer have them stay in church until after the children's message and then join Abbie in the nursery.
