RESURRECTION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
PROGRAM
The purpose of the scholarships, in memory of Pastor Ferreri’s father Vincent,
is to make available to worthy high school seniors, current undergraduate
students and individuals planning to attend or attending seminary a means to
compete for financial aid to supplement their tuition.
To be eligible, the applicant must be a communing member in
good standing for at least two prior years of Resurrection Lutheran Church or
Bethany Lutheran Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. In the fall of the year
following the date of his/her application the student must attend regular day
courses leading to a Bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university.
For those attending seminary their course of work should lead them to earning a
Masters of Divinity.
This year we are in a position to offer four $500.00 scholarships for the
undergraduate level and one for the seminary level. Applications were submitted by May 18, 2008
The application required two 250 to 750 word essays. One discussed what
this scholarship would mean to the applicant along with the applicant’s
involvement in community/school; the second essay described the applicant’s
faith journey as a disciple of Jesus to this point in the applicant’s life. Two
recommendations, one from a member of the applicant’s congregation (other than
the pastor) and another from someone in the community were also required. The
application form was available in the narthex or on line.
These scholarships are available due to the generosity of the people of
Resurrection Lutheran and we thank all those who have contributed. Any questions
can be addressed to Mike Walker, (609) 208-2880.
